I believe that another challenge of photography is to be able to see beyond the easily tempting elements of commercialized color and placement, and to focus on the many things that are generally easier to overlook. Often we don’t realize how much our sight and interpretation of what we see is controlled. Through a camera, we are able to block out all of these elements and focus on our raw visions.
To me this is a place where I can be myself and express my views, thoughts and feelings judgment free. Taking pictures is more than just aiming for great photography; I used to always say, “Some people write in journals, I prefer taking pictures”. Photography is my way of releasing my inner self regardless of whether it is to and for myself or who ever sees my pictures. Recently I have discovered that I like being on the other side of the lens as well. Though I do not have any experience there, I have been intrigued and look forward to further exploring this other form of expression.
Regardless of which side of the lens, to me my camera is like a sixth sense.
I love everything creative that makes the world a prettier place. Photography happens to be one of those things. It has been a while since I have taken pictures, but recently I started again and realized how much I missed this place of self-expression and comfort. I love to escape into a world that only I can see through my lens. This world is very personal to me, because it is something that is entirely me and based on my interpretations and creative freedoms. Here I can see things how I want to, whether it is a big picture or the simple focus on one element. My camera gives me the capability to extract pieces of my surroundings, and to dive into the micro-world of a single vision. It also allows me to see things that would normally be diluted in my general daily focus. Being in advertising, I have a great comprehension of the competition for our attention and focus that is strategically placed around us. I like to refer to them as “enclaves of commercialism”.
